Checklist for Hiring Node.js Developers

Rather than assuming that you already know about all the know-hows of Node.js, let’s first define it so that everyone is on the same page as this blog moves further.

Node.js is a cross-platform, open-source, back-end JavaScript runtime environment built on Chrome’s V8 javascript engine and executes JavaScript code outside a web browser. It is catching up on the popular technology tag because of its speed, accessibility, data sharing and streaming, for creating user-friendly web apps that are robust and responsive and one of the most used and loved technology amongst developers according to StackOverflow 2020 Developer Survey

All this popularity makes companies attracted towards it to consider hiring Node.js developers as businesses today want intuitive and responsive websites that can attract more and more traffic towards them. With this a question comes to mind: what are steps/ things to keep in mind before hiring a node.js developer? And that is what you will find out as you read this blog further.

The main and basic responsibility of the node.js developer is to have a sound knowledge of various programming languages used to establish a connection between client and server, logical thinking, strong analytics etc. but if we look at the niche qualities and responsibilities of a node.js developer then the list will not end like following agile methods, writing understandable clean code, front-end knowledge etc.

Preparation at your end

  1. Keep your specification ready and specify them properly. Because it is wise and helpful if you prepare a draft beforehand rather than jumping straight into the candidate lookout.Furthermore, once you’re done specifying your project requirements, you can start listing the skill sets required in a Node JS developer.
  2. Once you are done specifying your requirements and skill sets for a developer now it’s time to explore your hiring options like in-house, freelancers, web development company.
  3. Take out your James Bond glasses and do some background research as to what’s your candidate has done in the past and what kind of projects he/she has worked on since work experience is basically one of the most important factors to consider when hiring a Node JS Developer.
  4. Once you are done with everything mentioned above and have prepared a list of potential candidates for you its time to schedule a seating with them and have a talk and ask them questions in detail about Node.js so that you can sort the list.
  5. Okay so your candidate has answered all the question or most of them but still how do you know that he/she can perform well on an important project and handle the errors and meet project requirements, for this you must conduct a practical test for the candidate(s) irrespective it is a freelancer or a company.

Conclusion:

The process might look easy and small on paper but when you start implementing it is long and tedious. Freelancer or web development company, simple app or complex app, the ultimate decision basically boils down to your project requirements. Therefore, be sure about what exactly you need and why you need it.
